How to reduce Excessive Anxiety

This is something that in the past I have been personally affected by and its one of the worst feelings in the world. No amount of reassurance from others or telling me that I would be ok worked. I had to figure it out for myself.

Now one tip that is always mentioned is breathing techniques. These did not work for me (though everyone is different). What I did eventually ‘get’ was distraction techniques so listening to music or doing a puzzle on my phone, but then I got to thinking what If I one day forgot my phone and did not have my music. So I learnt to count back from 100 if I had a looming anxiety attack, that did work, however somedays I would then panic more if I got to say 20 and the panic was still there so that wasn’t fully reliable.

Panic and anxiety attacks are AWFUL but what I have found is the best way to manage it is ride the wave, as scary as that sounds, you know that even thought it is horrendous at the time it will eventually stop. That has taught me to say afterwards I got through that so next time it happens I found that the attack lasted less and less until I only experience them every so often now.
